The ancient quarter is located on an area of about 100ha, within the territory of Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi City. Geometrically, the ancient quarter has a shape of triangle, whose peak is constituted by Hang Than Street, eastern side by damp, western side by the streets of Hang Cot, Hang Dieu, Hang Da and based by the axis of Hang Bong, Hang Gai, Cau Go Streets.
The history of Hanoi's Old Quarter spans 2000 years. It lies between the Returned Sword Lake to the South and the Long Bien Bridge to the North. The former city rampart, now called Tran Nhat Duat Street, marks its East border and the citadel wall on Ly Nam De Street its West. Present-day Hanoi ('Inside the Riverbend') was once a turtle and alligator-infested swamp, then a cluster of villages made up of houses on stilts. The villages were unified by Chinese administrators who built ramparts around their headquarters and called the area "Dominated Annam." In the late tenth century the Vietnamese attained independence from the Chinese. King Ly Thai To made the city his capital in 1010 and gave it the name Thang Long ('Soaring Dragon'.)
Located at 101 Nguyen Thai Hoc Road, Hoi An Town, Quang Nam Province. an Ky House was constructed almost two centuries ago as the house of a Vietnamese merchant. The design of Tan Ky House shows how local architecture incorporated Japanese and Chinese influences. Japanese elements include the crab shell-shaped ceiling supported by three beams in the living room. Chinese poems written in mother-of-pearl are hanging from a number of the columns that hold up the roof.
Phong Nam Village is located in Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang District, Danang City. It is among very few villages that still remain the features of the traditional villages of Vietnam like the green fields surrounded with the bamboos, the paths, the simple houses and the lifestyles of the farmers.

Tuy Loan Village is located far 15km to the southwest along the National Highway No14B from Danang City. Tuy Loan Ancient Village is over 500 years old and imbue with mark of traditional and cultural character of Vietnam rural. The worshipping house’s Stele of the five families says that five predecessors of the five families Dang, Lam, Nguyen, Tran, Le were called for going to Binh Chiem to widen the country by King Le Thanh Ton. They chose this place, which was named Tuy Loan, to build village to make the living.

Located in Binh Thuy Ward, 5km from the center of Cantho City. The 130 year ancient house is a very beautiful residence imbued with features of the southern delta. The owner of this ancient house is respected Mr. Duong Minh Hien, an old sentimental man, by chance, remaining in the 20th century. It is just thanks to its maintained ancientness that this house was chosen as one of recording sites for the romantic film “Lover” of producer J. Annaud.

In Hung Yen Town today, 60km from Hanoi. There is still a whole architectural complex of 60 historical vestiges, 100 engraved stelae, and many temples and pagodas in Hien Street. Many Vietnamese are familiar with the saying "One should first visit Thang Long and then Hien Street". From Hanoi, take road 5 to Pho Noi, then road 39A through corn and rice fields and luxuriant gardens of longan trees to finally reach the Hien Street port. Hien Street is located 60km from Hanoi.

The name Le Mat, according to history, appeared before the time of Le Canh Hung (1740 -1786), but it was just acknowledged as a commune level administrative unit from the beginning of Nguyen dynasty, means that in the early of 20th century. After many times changing place name, boundary, in the late of 1997, Le Mat became one of three hamlets (Le Mat, Truong Lam, Kim Quan), now belongs to Viet Hung commune, Gia Lam district, on the outskirt of Ha Noi city. 
Duong Lam Ancient Village has a history of about 1,200 years with many houses dating back up to 400 years. It is the only place in Vietnam where two kings came from.King Phung Hung (761-802) and King Ngo Quyen (808-944), who were born and grew up in the village, led the resistance to and had victories over China's Sung and Southern Han troops to recover national independence. They both became kings. After they died, temples were erected to worship them.
