Lim Festival

The Lim Festival is celebrated ont 13th day of the first lunar month in Lim Hill, Lim Town, Tien Du District, Bac Ninh Province. "Quan Ho" is a special folk song of Kinh Bac Province, now called Bac Ninh Province. The festival takes place on Lim Hill where the Lim Pagoda is located. This pagoda is where Mr. Hieu Trung Hau, the man who invented Quan Ho, is worshipped. The Lim Festival takes place every year on 13th day of the first lunar month. Visitors come to enjoy the festival and see the performances of "lien anh" and "lien chi". These are male and female farmers who sing different types of songs in the pagodas, on the hills, and in the boats.
The Lim Festival, Vietnam takes place on the 13th day of the first lunar month in Lim Village which is 18 Kms from Hanoi. This is the most well-known of the festivals in Vietnam when the famous folk song Quan Ho is performed. The legend says that a woman of Noi Due hamlet in Vietnam named Ba Mu , who attained enlightenment after becoming a Buddhist monk at the Lim Pagoda, had ended a drought in the village on the request of the villagers. Henceforth the people of the village, now Lim Village worshipped her as their protector and took the date of her enlightenment as the date of the Lim Festival in Vietnam.
Lim Festival, Vietnam is one of the leading Vietnam festivals and events. It is also the leading Quan Ho festival in Vietnam with famous villages in Quan Ho song taking part in it along with thousands of other visitors. Quan Ho is a dialogue performance between male singers (lien anh) and female singers (lien chi). There are strict rules for this dialogue performance and the singers must not only be quick witted but also should have strong grasp of traditional tunes and history and culture of these songs.
Besides this, visitors can come to the Lim Festival to enjoy the weaving competition of the Noi Due girls. They weave and sing Quan Ho songs at the same time. Like other religious festivals, the Lim Festival goes through all the ritual stages, from the procession to the worshipping ceremony, and includes other activities such as swinging, human chess, wrestling and more. The Lim Festival is a special cultural activity in the North. The festival celebrates the "Quan Ho" folk song which has become a part of the national culture and a typical folk song that is well loved in the Red River Delta region.
