Is is a rather big house which has been preserved almost in its original status of the early 19th century. The House was built in the shape of the ancient houses in Hoi An . This is a distinctive old construction. Bats, serpents like monsters, flowers and fruits, Eight Weapons and stripes of silk are elaborately carved thanks to the talents of Kim Bong carpenters. The House also has a set of “vi keo” with short beams overlapping one another, which is called “chong ruong gia thu” and decorated with the carved strips of silk wrapping 2 piece of crossing “ Nhu y” (As Expectation)” gems to support the arch in the shape of tortoise-shell. Very beautiful. There is still a pulley used in the past for lifting goods and commodities up to the second floor.

Seven generations used to live in the Tan Ky Ancient House. The front part of the House is used for shop while the behind part with aback door towards the river is for goods storage. Tan Ky Ancient House is a harmonious distinction and talents of ancient carpenters. This is also an ideal address for visitors who are interested in discovering the ancient traditional architectures. Many horizontal lacquered boards and pairs of wood panels with paralleled sentences here have still kept the original colors of the red lacquer gilded with gold. Carved details on wooden frames and columns are considered the most beautiful ones among Ancient Houses in Hoi An. The “National Cultural - Historical vestige” Certificate was issued for Tan Ky Ancient House on 17 February, 1990.
